Choose a child in your class with communication difficulties and review their ability to communicate.
Consider the following areas:
What methods of communication do they use?
Who do they communicate with - you, their peers, others?
In what areas of their life do they really communicate?
What steps do you take to make sure that they can express their views on matters that affect them?
How do you act upon their communication?
What is being/could be done to improve the child's ability to communicate? Think about features of the child's environment,
not just ways of improving their communication skills
Make an action plan to improve the child's ability to determine things for themselves. Act upon it and monitor any
resulting improvements in the child's quality of life.
